2023 Western States Apprentice Contest
April 2, 2024Well done Travis!
Each year the JATCs from across ten Western US states are invited to send participants to compete in the annual Western States Apprentice Contest. The location of the contest rotates among the ten states and this year’s contest was held in sunny San Jose, California in August 2023. The Electrical Training Alliance of Silicon Valley, IBEW Local #332 was the gracious host for the contest. PSEJATC’s 5th year apprentice representative was Travis Greenfield.
The first day’s activities were social in nature. The best apprentices from their JATCs got to mingle and get to know each other over rounds of golf and dinner. The second day, it was the day to set aside the new found friendships and compete.
The competition included a written test along with various hands-on skills challenges. It was a long demanding day of conduit bending, Residential wiring, code calculations, material identification and motor control systems. Each task was a timed event and was judged on speed and accuracy. After a day of competing, the apprentices happily gathered that evening at the awards banquet to hear their results.
We would like to thank Travis for his willingness to compete and represent PSEJATC in the contest. He represented PSEJATC proudly coming in overall 5th in the competition. Next year’s event will be held in Utah.
