Apprenticeship programs for electrical contractors in the Puget Sound region
The Puget Sound Electrical JATC (PSEJATC) is a non-profit organization that provides the training required to receive certifications in Inside Wireman (Construction) Electrician, Low Voltage/Sound and Communication Electrician and Residential Electrician. PSEJATC is jointly sponsored by the Puget Sound Chapter of the NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) and IBEW local 46 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). It is the responsibility of PSEJATC to provide training for apprentices and journeymen in the organized electrical industry within the local 46 jurisdiction which includes King, Kitsap, Jefferson and Clallam counties.

To work in the electrical construction trade, an individual must possess, wear, and visibly display on the front of the upper body, a current valid:
Electrical training certificate, learning the trade in the proper ratio, per RCW 19.28.161, under the supervision of a certified master journeyman electrician, journeyman electrician, master specialty electrician working in their specialty, or specialty electrician working in their specialty.
The certificate may be worn inside the outer layer of clothing when outer protective clothing (e.g., rain gear when outside in the rain, arc flash, welding gear, etc.) is required. The certificate must be worn inside the protective clothing so that when the protective clothing is removed, the certificate is visible. A cold weather jacket or similar apparel is not protective clothing.
The certificate may be worn inside the outer layer of clothing when working in an attic or crawl space or when operating equipment (e.g., drill motor, conduit threading machine, etc.) where wearing the certificate may pose an unsafe condition for the individual.
The certificate must be immediately available for examination at all times.
Any person working as an electrician or trainee must also possess government issued photo identification and immediately present that identification when requested by the inspector.

The PSEJATC in cooperation with the Puget Sound Chapter NECA and IBEW Local 46 have established a new veterans program (V.I.C.E.), Veterans in Construction Electrical. This program is designed to assist military veterans who posess an aptitude in the electrical industry to gain employment and career opportunities. Upon acceptance into the V.I.C.E. program, the veteran will follow a twelve-week schedule designed to accelerate advancement within our electrical apprenticeship program. The 12-week program consists of curriculum derived from the NJATC (National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee) which covers basic electrical theory, circuitry training, mathematics, and electrical/construction safety training. Participants will receive OSHA 30 training along with lab training in conduit bending and electrical wiring.
