2011 Energy and Construction Summit: Smarter Grid Innovations

Satsop Energy Summit

The 6th annual Energy and Construction Best Practices Summit was recently held at the Regional Education and Training Center, Satsop Campus – site of the never completed and never-fired nuclear power plant in Elma, Washington. The event was hosted by the Pacific Northwest Center of Excellence for Clean Energy, Centralia College, and the Construction Center of Excellence. In attendance were industry stakeholders from local and regional electrical utilities, labor and workforce organizations, economic development agencies, state government, electrical contractors, and educational organizations. The Puget Sound Electrical JATC and the Northwest Washington Electrical JATC, as well as IBEW Locals 46 and 77, were among the sponsors of the summit. A complement of linemen from Seattle City Light raised the American flag during the opening ceremony held inside of one of the uncompleted cooling towers.

Attention Apprentices

Volunteer Hours With Habitat for Humanity Can Now Be Used For Your Electrical Trainee Card!

Unfortunately there are many apprentices and journeymen electricians currently out of work. We understand times are tough and you are eagerly anticipating getting back to work.

If you are currently out of work, PSEJATC and Habitat for Humanity want to make you aware of an opportunity to volunteer for those in need in your community and to benefit you personally. By volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, you can get hours counted toward your electrical trainee card with Labor and Industries, you make acquaintances throughout the construction industry, and you will have a great looking resume.

There are several Habitat for Humanity projects taking place.  I will be creating a list of apprentices interested in volunteering.  Please visit http://www.habitat.org/ and enter your zip code to find your local Habit for Humanity to see an updated list of projects taking place.

If you are interested, please do not volunteer through Habitat for Humanity’s website.   Contact the JATC as soon as possible.  Your name and contact information will be given to a Habitat for Humanity representative who will then contact you.

Also, if you have any additional questions, please feel free to Donita Smith 425-228-1777 X107 or the Training Director, William McCartan 425-228-1777 X101.
