Minimum Qualifications and Procedures
Minimum Qualifications
Age: Must be at least 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit.
Education: Must be a high school graduate or have a GED with a minimum of 250 points (2500 in the new scoring system) OR in lieu of a high school diploma, have a two-year Associate Degree or higher.
Construction Electrician applicants must show evidence of completion (with a "C" or better) of one full year of high school algebra or one post high school algebra course, or provide evidence of having completed the NJATC Math Course with a minimum score of 75%. Residential and Sound & Communication applicants must show evidence of completion (with a "C" or better) of one year of high school basic math.

Other: Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Procedures
Applying: You must submit your application online. There is a $50 application due at the time of submission. To apply, you will be directed to the JATC Member Log-In page. You must create an account and make sure that you are logged in to your account. On the left hand side of the page under "Apprenticeship Applications," you will click on the "Apply" button.
Returning: In order for your application to be considered valid, you must submit all supporting documentation (official, sealed high school and college transcripts; and, where applicable, GED with scores and proof of a valid driver's license) within 60 days from the date of application.
Testing: Once all qualifying documents are submitted, you will be scheduled to take the NJATC Aptitude Test. The aptitude test is generally scheduled once a month and is administered here at the PSEJATC.
Construction Electrician applicants will also need to submit qualifying Compass/ASSET test scores. This test is administered by the local community or technical college. You will be given information on how and where you can take this test. You must obtain a Compass test score of 57 in Writing, 54 in Pre-Algebra, and 75 in Reading or the equivalent ASSET test score of 40 in Writing, 43 in Numerical, and 40 in Reading.
Assessment: All applicants must complete the online World of Work Inventory (WOWI) assessment. Access to the test will be given by the PSEJATC.
Interview: After all minimum qualifications and testing have been completed and passed you will be scheduled for an oral interview. Interviews are generally scheduled once a month. Upon completion of the interview, your name will be placed on our eligibility list according to your ranking score. You will remain on the eligibility list for up to two years without reapplication.
